Our Mission
Our goals
Educate our communities
Since 2007, Friends of Nevada Organics has been educating Nevadans about the benefits of organic farming practices for the environment and those that dwell in it - ALL OF US. We believe that the more educated a community is, the better it can advocate for itself in a time of misinformation marketing and global corporate lobbying firms.
Empower small scale polyculture farmers
Community matters! Friends of Nevada Organics Org was founded on the principles of organic farming, and has acted as a fiscal agent in support of related community projects in Nevada. We want to inspire support for even the smallest farmers. An abundant future needs all hands on deck, and urban farms and microfarms are just as important as (if not more for limiting unnecessary food miles) larger scaled operations.
We showcase a different farm or producer every quarter from Nevada that is committed to common sense polyculture, preserving the health of our watersheds, and our communities they share these precious resources with.
Our 2026 fundraiser is full of whimsy to cultivate interest and inspire excitement for the garden, for young and old alike! Pick a flat 10ft x 10 ft space in your yard within reach for easy watering, and Friends of Nevada Organics volunteers will do the rest.
We will come to your house, prepare, and plant a garden bed for a sunflower house. You will be required to water and provide daily observation and maintenance after.
Inspired by the book Roots, Shoots, Buckets, and Boots by Sharon Lovejoy, our Friends of Nevada Organics volunteers will visit and help select the best site for care and cultivation, provide initial materials along with initial labor for your seeds to take hold. Once your sunflowers start popping up, you’ll love watching your “house” take shape, and the shaggy bark floor provides a soft place for you and your family to rest or play.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
This experience is only offered to those in Fallon/Fernley/Silver/Springs/Stagecoach/Hawthorne/Lovelock Areas. This allows special attention for the Northern Nevada rural areas at this time. There are LOTS of great programs in our metropolitan areas.
Sunflower Houses will be planted after the last frost. You MUST water your sunflower house daily if needed to ensure proper germination and growth of your tender seeds.
At Friends of Nevada Organics, we are fostering an organic growing culture in farm fields, school gardens, and backyard landscapes. We do so by facilitating education about the human and environmental benefits of growing crops, processing food, and maintaining landscapes organically, starting with our own kitchens and yards, no matter the size.
How it all started
Friends Of Nevada Organics Org was started by Nevadans dedicated to organic agriculture almost 20 years ago. It continues to educate fellow Nevadans in the numerous benefits of the organic lifestyle through workshops, skill share opportunities, and volunteer powered collaborations.
As a 501c3 educational organization, we act as a fiscal agent and accept tax deductible public donations to advance the organic and permaculturally oriented lifestyle in Nevada in the local community, and at state and national levels.
